Frankfurt, Germany – During the recent International Year of the Gorilla Symposium, Ian Redmond – Ambassador for the UN Year of the Gorilla – and Princess Odette Maniema Krempin – UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador – signed special editions of Daniel Taylor’s Mountain gorilla and Cross River gorilla art works.
The unique autographed gorilla prints will be auctioned at events that will be organised in 2009 and funds raised from this will be going to gorilla conservation in East and Central Africa.
Government representatives, experts, NGOs and scientific bodies convened to discuss key threats to gorillas and their habitats and to issue guidelines on how best to mitigate them at an international symposium on gorillas.
The event was organized and sponsored mainly by the German Ministry for the Environment (BMU), in close cooperation and with the support of the Frankfurt Zoological Society, the Zoo Frankfurt (venue) and the YoG partners CMS, GRASP and WAZA. The symposium was held in Frankfurt on June 9 and 10.
On the evening of the 10th, a gala dinner took place followed by the the first meeting of the Technical Committee of the CMS Gorilla Agreement on June 11.
